Women were stratified by fatness, fitness and anthropometric characteristics into a fast or powerlifting slow walking groups corresponding to walking at 125% or 95% of their anaerobic threshold (AT). Each subject served as her own control as powerlifting all measurements were carried out before the start and after 15 and 30 weeks of training. A number of variables were measured to carry out the above specific aims and test four hypotheses. Of those, some required 15 weeks of training and others full 30 weeks of training. Since 5 women dropped out between 15 and 30 weeks of training, three additional subjects have been recruited into the study this fall. Their measurements will be completed this summer.
