Current status of the project: Design of this study called for recruitment of 15 postmenopausal women, assessment of their fitness level with a walking treadmill test and training them with daily 3-mile walks, five days a week over a period of 30 weeks. Women were stratified by fatness, fitness and anthropometric characteristics into a loseabdominal fat fast or slow walking groups corresponding to walking at 125% or 95% of their anaerobic threshold (AT). Each subject served as her own control as all measurements were carried out before the start and after 15 and 30 weeks of training.
