Without a proper citation, it is not clear whether his information is fact, anecdotal evidence, or merely opinion. My biggest concern with this book was the idea that cardiovascular exercise is not important for long-term health and weight management. healthylifestyle Mr. Aceto bases this idea on the fact that the body adapts to aerobic exercise over time and thus requires healthylifestyle less energy to perform the same work. Yes, this is true. Usually this is called improving one's cardiovascular fitness and is seen as a benefit of regular exercise. healthylifestyle Eventually the body will adapt and become more efficient in performing any physical activity, including weight training. The argument against doing cardio could just as easily apply to weight training. Without a progressive increase in overload, the body will adapt to weight training and progress will stop. So, a well-designed exercise program takes this adaptation into account and incorporates regular changes to avoid plateaus. |
